ALERT: Administration Seeks 15 Percent Cut in Hospice Rates

Dear Friends of Hospice of Lancaster County,

We have greatly appreciated your many ways of support to Hospice of Lancaster County over the past years. Currently we need your active help again in protecting our ability to continue the specialized care that Hospice provides for patients and families when faced with end-of-life decisions.

In recent weeks we have been made aware of the Administration's latest budget package to Congress specifically asking for drastic cuts in hospice reimbursement rates. We request your help by writing to legislators Senator Arlen Specter, Senator Robert Casey, Jr. and Congressman Joseph Pitts asking them to continue their support of high quality care delivered by the nation's hospices, including Hospice of Lancaster County, and to protect our Medicare rate structure.

We know that typed or handwritten personal letters mailed or faxed from concerned constituents on personal or professional stationery garner much attention. One personal letter from a constituent often can have more impact than thousands of form letters. Below see a sample letter including some of the language that you may use, however, as always, this will be more effective when you personalize the letter with your own words and examples.

Just last year our program provided quality compassionate care to 2,665 patients and their families. We also provided important end-of-life education and bereavement support to our community through Hospice of Lancaster County's PATHways Center for Grief & Loss and supported nearly 7,700 adults, teens and children.

Please help us continue our specialized care to the Lancaster County community. Please write or e-mail to your legislator TODAY requesting their rejection of any proposal that would impose cuts to the Medicare hospice reimbursement rates!
